13.1

It should have been called "Lots and lots of Hills Half Marathon".
Solvang was a quaint little Danish town that shut down at 6:00. and guess whos Danish-Me. I knew I was suppose to do this race. We shopped around and ate every danish treat possible. Willie really enjoyed the Aevleskivers for breakfast.

My sister Candice crossing the finish line. It was so fun to cheer her on.
Since Willie really took one for the team by babysiting Myles and doing everything Candice and I wanted to eat and do, we got him a porshe...his dream car.

Dinner at El Torito Grill

Dont worry, we ate Red Mango every night. Delish. Yea go ahea call us fatty's we got larges, I could have ate 2. The boys while the girls shopped
My freind Nicolle from L.A. I was so excited when I saw her at one of the mountains we climbed. When I saw her charging the hill she made me push harder. Thanks Nic.
Wine anyone?? Candice really enjoyed the buffet after. She still talks about the cheese and bread. I was like- no thanks to cheese at 9:00 in the morning.

I cant even begin to tell you what a blast I had doing my first half marathon. I was such a nerd, I cried at the beginning. I loved the start better then the end. It was really cool because everyone had their names on the bibs so people were calling my name the whole race. I loved it! I was all grins. In fact, Im so curious to see the pictures from the race because I was such a poser for every photographer. I dont know why, but It gave me something to laugh at each couple miles. Im sure they thought I was such a weirdo.
Anyways, I knew it was going to be hard considering the starting line was a hill. My sister told me it was down hill after mile 6. Oh no, it was just getting started- I seriously Loved it though. I think I would have been bored if there wasn't hills. I loved the challenge. I also should have used my Nike+ because this race had no mile markers or time clocks. More importantly Porto potties. I was asking people how long we had been running and what mile we were on as they were sporting their fancy fanny packs fully equipped with gels, gloves, and other fancy drinks.
Everyone was super nice, and any time someone would pass me with a shirt that said running for someone with cancer or someone that passed away I got choked up. The scenery was beautiful, we ran through vineyards and the weather was perfect. I loved seeing Willie at the end cheering me on with Myles. I was emotitional because it had beed almost exactly a year since I had Myles. I couldnt have done it without them. Thanks Willie for giving up surfing on some Saturdays I know it was a big sacrifice.
My goal was to get under 2 hours but I got 2 hours and 3 minutes. I will say I think I would have met my goal if there wasn't as many gosh darn hills. All in all I had the time of my life and I decided my theme song for the race is Proud by Heather Small. I not only love it because its the theme song from Biggest Loser -but I love the lyrics. I also should thank Madonna and JT for there great single that I tried not to play to much before the race so I could really enjoy it for the run.
Im not going to lie, I kinna wanted to wear my medal the rest of the day. I just feel like Im on a kick and want to do every race now. I am so glad my sister was able so come run this race with me, I love you Candice and am so proud of you. I hope to see all my sisters at the mud run along with my cousins. whos in??

Guess what...I went back to H&M and bought that dress that you tried on...only I bought in in boring black. I love it though!

So many things to say! First of all, you are the cutest! I'm so glad you felt so good running that race and you look so dang hot! If my legs could look like yours from running- I'm in. Also, that is a very long race, you are amazing. On to Willie- I laughed so hard seeing the picture of him on the man bench with your babe. I swear the only people that sit on those benches are men waiting for their wives to finish shopping, or in your case-finish a crazy marathon. Lastly, I love that you know so many yummy places to eat, because you know this prego girl is going to want to try every single one when I get to California! See ya soon!

CONGRATULATIONS! I was the one who ran in High school and now I NEVER run. AND, I have NO desire to ever ever run a marathon OR half marathon. I think a 5 k is all I will ever do! But, you go girl!

I am so proud of you Rachel! I know you've been preparing for this. So glad to hear that it was such a great experience for you--on several different levels. I admire runners--it takes a lot of will power. You made running a half marathon sound like fun! Maybe I should give it a try some day. :)
